Led by Director of Research and Innovation, Dr Ian Selby, CEM’s highly experienced research team brings a professional approach to the management of projects, working closely with clients and sponsors.
The team provides a multi-disciplinary knowledge base, professional expertise and varied property industry experience to undertake or support research projects, produce high quality reports and disseminate key findings.
Dr Ian Selby BSc (Econ) Hons, M.Phil (Cantab), Ph.D (Cantab)
Ian’s experience in research and public affairs for public and private sector organisations includes leading research at the British Council for Offices, including into workplace productivity, urban regeneration, office occupancy and facilities management, sustainability and technical affairs. He spearheaded the BCO’s major best practice guides series.
Ian has been a member of a number of Government committees and working parties, including on decontamination of buildings, building regulations, energy performance certificates, the National Ratepayers Forum, and the DoT Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee on the Built Environment.
Gaye Pottinger BSc (Est Man), FRICS
Gaye worked as a building surveyor and valuation surveyor in local government for many years, covering all aspects of management and valuation across housing, leisure and commercial property. She has particular expertise in major development transactions, public sector property management and competitive tendering. She has played a key role in CEM’s research on residential leasehold management. Gaye has also been a tutor in housing studies at Reading College.
Professor Frances Plimmer DipEstMan, MPhil, PhD, FRICS, IRRV, FInstCPD
Frances has extensive experience in the field of land taxation and valuation. As well as her research work in this area, she is responsible for CEM’s statutory valuation teaching modules. She is the editor of Property Management and sits on the editorial advisory board of the Journal of Property Tax Assessment & Administration and International Journal of Housing Markets and Analysis. She is a member of the RICS Research Advisory Board and the UK delegate and chair elect to FIG (Commission 9 – Valuation)
Dr Gethin Edwards BA, MA, PhD
Gethin’s main research interest is urban and regional governance. He graduated in Geography and gained an MA in Space, Place and Politics at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. His PhD from King’s College London (2008) investigated the implementation of the government’s sustainable communities plan in the Thames Gateway, focusing on Thurrock and east London, where new Urban Development Corporations have been charged with spearheading local economic development.
Anca Tanton MSc
Anca joined the College Research team in March 2010. She graduated in Economics at the Academy of Economic Studies Bucharest in 2001 (the Faculty of Economics and Management of the Agricultural and Food Production). After working for nine years in the leisure industry, she decided to pursue a new career and in 2009 completed an MSc in Environmental Management for Business at Cranfield University. Her thesis focused on the feasibility of implementing technologies to improve the management and re-use of waste and wastewater on industrial sites in the UK, in particular identifying drivers and barriers influencing the adoption of such technologies and recommendations about measures to encourage more rapid introduction. Anca has a particular research interest in sustainability issues and her research at CEM will include work on flood risk and property.
