Phil Leverton obtained a degree in Urban Land Economics at Sheffield Polytechnic, followed by part-time postgraduate study in Town Planning at City of Birmingham Polytechnic and research at the University of East Anglia. He spent nine years employed in a range of planning, development and conservation work with local authorities in London, the Midlands and Norfolk whilst qualifying as a Chartered Surveyor and Chartered Town Planner before holding academic posts at Trent Polytechnic (now Nottingham Trent University) and the University of Glamorgan. Following further postgraduate work to obtain an M.A. in Heritage Management at the Ironbridge Institute, University of Birmingham, and a short period at the Rhondda Heritage Park in South Wales, he was employed as Project Officer by The Waterways Trust before joining the College in 2004.
Phil's main research interests are influences on the evolution and regeneration of suburban and smaller urban areas, and the use of built and cultural heritage assets as a vehicle for regeneration. He has extensive experience of development, validation and review of academic programmes and has been an external lecturer and external examiner to a number of universities and colleges, and also a teaching quality assessor on behalf of the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales.
