Dr Andrew Green is the Tutor in Facilities Management and Course Director for the Post Graduate/MSc programme in Facilities Management at the College of Estate Management, Reading.
Andrew graduated with a 4-year honours degree in Business Studies, specialising in marketing and accountancy. On leaving the Royal Air Force, he has ensured his continuous professional development through post-graduate studies completing the CEM 2-year PGDiploma in Facilities Management in 1998, a 1-year Master of Business Administration in 1999, and a 4-year Doctor of Business Administration in 2007, both the latter in the strategic FM arena.
Andrew joined the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) in 1994 and sat on the Research Committee in its various guises for some 10 years. In 2001, whilst living and working in Singapore, Andrew qualified as a Certified Facility Manager with the International Facility Management Association (IFMA). With a Singaporean colleague he also established the Singapore Chapter of IFMA and became their inaugural President.
Dr Green brings a facilitated learning approach to his work: a niche approach called Guided Self-reflection (GSR). His doctoral thesis researched, developed and trialled the GSR approach which is a form of facilitated Action Learning. It seeks to engage participants in exploring new routes to resolve their personal and business issues through guiding their reflection of their issues from different perspectives. This approach has been deployed within the private and public sectors, and is particularly effective in the Facilities Management arena where a resource alignment perspective is used.
Andrew successfully combines a practical application of his academic knowledge with his extensive military and civilian experience within various business environments: He is a retired Wing Commander having completed 20 years in command and specialist roles in the Royal Air Force; over the following 13 years he held positions of company director, director and partner in major consultancy companies in the UK and in SE Asia. He is currently a director of his own management consultancy company, Clayton-Green Ltd.
